As you know, all good ideas start either in the bathroom or the car. Last May, my sister and I were coming back from Thomasville, GA after taking a wonderful walking food tour. “Why doesn’t Valdosta have a food tour?” Downtown Valdosta’s restaurant scene had exploded in the last few years and most people living 15 minutes from there don’t even know it, much less the millions of people driving by on I-75 every year. The more we talked about it, the more idea excited we became.
We would hear countless times “There is nothing to do here.” To set the record straight, that is 100% completely false. There is so much to do here. Whether you are into sports, art, music, church, outdoors, history or food there is literally something for everyone.
I love the city of Valdosta. It is a secret Southern gem and that secret is not so secret anymore. We are slowly finding our own identity. We are not Thomasville, Savannah, or Atlanta. We are Mobile. We have our own history and culture.
Miss Kate’s Deep South Tours was started with one goal in mind – to promote Valdosta and South Georgia. We are connecting people through food. Miss Kate’s Deep South Tours will be seeking out the best culinary experiences and sharing them with you. On our tours we will be eating at Valdosta’s best restaurants and experiencing our rich heritage and culture in our tours. We will also promote local events around town, give you the latest news on restaurant openings, review the best restaurants around town, and give you exclusive interviews with restaurant owners and chefs. Most of all, we want to share our love for Valdosta through this blog.
We know Valdosta will become a destination city. It’s just going to take a few more car rides to make it happen.
